Becky and I went to see 21 at the AMC theaters in Highlands Ranch, Colorado on Friday, with Becky’s Dad who was visiting from out of town. The Fandango website at 21 describes the movie as follows:
“Ben Campbell (Jim Sturgess) is a shy, brilliant M.I.T. student who — needing to pay school tuition — finds the answers in the cards. He is recruited to join a group of the school’s most gifted students that heads to Vegas every weekend armed with fake identities and the know-how to turn the odds at blackjack in their favor. With unorthodox math professor and stats genius Micky Rosa (Kevin Spacey) leading the way, they’ve cracked the code. By counting cards and employing an intricate system of signals, the team can beat the casinos big time. Seduced by the money, the Vegas lifestyle, and by his smart and sexy teammate, Jill Taylor (Kate Bosworth), Ben begins to push the limits. Though counting cards isn’t illegal, the stakes are high, and the challenge becomes not only keeping the numbers straight, but staying one step ahead of the casinos’ menacing enforcer: Cole Williams (Laurence Fishburne).”
The Review
21 is a great flick! There is plenty of entertainment value for the money with this movie. It’s really an interesting and entertaining story that will keep your interest from start to finish. There are so many cool parts of this film that made it one that you won’t want to miss.
21 is one of those movies that was good from beginning to end. It was predictable most of the time, but there were enough twists to keep you wondering how it was going to turn out and the ending is really neat. The acting is great, the directing is great, the characters are awesome and the story is a trip.
This is definitely the movie to make sure you see on the big screen. Becky and I both rated it as a Don’t Miss It and her Dad liked it as much as we did.

Becky and I went to see Shutter at the AMC theaters in Highlands Ranch, Colorado last week. The Yahoo website at Shutter describes the movie as follows:
“For photographer Ben and his new wife Jane, his new assignment–a lucrative fashion shoot in Tokyo–was supposed to be a kind of working honeymoon. With this exotic professional opportunity and the limitless possibilities of a new marriage, Ben and Jane arrive in Japan. But as they make their way on a mountain road leading to Mt. Fuji, their new life together comes to, literally, a crashing halt. Their car smashes into a woman standing in the middle of the road, who has materialized out of nowhere. Upon regaining consciousness after the accident, Ben and Jane cannot find any trace of the girl Jane believes she hit with the car.”
The Review
Shutter is a whacky horror film that was a bit like The Grudge and The Ring, only this time the ghosts lived in the camera. The movie isn’t terrible, but it’s not really worth the price of admission unless you’re planning to see it at a cheap theater after it has been out for a while. The movie is predictable, it moved slow and was pretty cheesy, but overall it was entertaining.
We can’t rate it as being worth the trip, but it will make for a good rental.

Becky and I went to see Never Back Down at the Kerasotes theaters in Castle Rock, Colorado last week. The Fandango website at Never Back Down describes the movie as follows:
“Jake Tyler (Sean Faris) is the new kid in town with a troubled past. He was a star athlete on the football team at home, but in this new city he is an outsider with a reputation for being a quick tempered brawler. After he is unwittingly pulled into a fight, defeated and humiliated, a classmate introduces him to the sport of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). It is immediately apparent to Jake that MMA is not street fighting but rather an art form he wants to master, and he soon finds his mentor in Jean Roqua (Djimon Hounsou), who takes Jake under his wing.”
The Review
Never Back Down is a great flick. It’s a bit like an updated version of The Karate Kid with Ultimate Fighting. There are a bunch of no name actors in it, except for the dude from Gladiator (Djimon Hounsou). It’s a teen movie, but it’s done very well with plenty of action and excitement.
The story is really good. There is a good moral to the story and Becky and it’s pretty clean and well done. Becky and I both liked it and thought it was worth the trip. You should enjoy this one if you see it at the theaters or at home.

Becky and I went to see Drillbit Taylor at the AMC theaters in Highlands Ranch, Colorado last week. The Yahoo website at Drillbit Taylor describes the movie as follows:
“Ryan, Wade and Emmit attend their first day at high school and they’re pumped… until they meet up with Filkins, a school bully who comes off like a little Hannibal Lecter. Before they become completely engulfed in Filkins’ reign of terror, they seek out some protection by placing an ad in Soldier of Fortune magazine. Their best response - and the cheapest - comes from Drillbit Taylor, a down-on-his luck soldier of fortune who lives a homeless - he likes to say “home-free” - existence on the beach. He enrolls them in some physical and mental training.”
The Review
Drillbit Taylor is a quirky flick with Owen Wilson and very few laughs. Owen Wilson plays his same passive character that he does in every comedy lately he has done in recent years. Only this character is beyond ridiculous. It’s something you would expect from Adam Sandler or Will Ferrell with their zany roles as of late.
Drillbit Taylor might be worth renting, but don’t waste your time or money going to see this one on the big screen. It’s just so unbelievable that it’s stupid.

Becky and I took the kids to see Dr. Seuss’ Horton Hears A Who! at the Kerasotes theaters in Castle Rock, Colorado last week. The Fandango website at Dr. Seuss’ Horton Hears A Who! describes the movie as follows:
“The imaginative elephant Horton hears a cry for help coming from a tiny speck of dust floating through the air. Suspecting there may be life on that speck and despite a surrounding community which thinks he has lost his mind, Horton is determined to help.”
The Review
Dr. Seuss’ Horton Hears A Who! is the latest animated kids movie starring a bunch of name brand actors as the voices for these characters. The kids really liked the film and thought it was great. The story was okay, but if you have kids you’ll probably end up going anyway regardless of if you like the story or not.
I didn’t like it as much as the kids did and Becky and I felt the same about this one. We both would recommend waiting for the rental. The kids all really enjoyed it though, but maybe we’ve just seen so many animated kids films we’re kind of dull to them.
